Note that the "pen" is a small stylus, not a pen.

Installation Steps

Step One: Open the Cricut Joy clamp and remove any tools or accessories.

Step Two: Insert the pen into the proper adapter. Note that the pen is inserted into the "B" side as shown above.

Step Three: Insert the pen, with the adapter into the Cricut Joy. Note that on half-barrel adapters, only the half-barrel section is inserted into the Joy.

Step Four: Close the clamp on the Cricut Joy.

Important Notes:

  • Certain pens like the Tombow Calligraphy and the Dual-Brush do not lock in place. Please adjust depth of pen into the adapter for desired strokes.   Don’t force pens into the adapter. If it’s too tight, you’re probably using the wrong pen or adapter. Message me and I can help.

  • For Foil Quills, you may find that you need to make two passes ("Rerun" in Design Space) for best results. This is not a problem with the adapter, rather the quills run rather cool (for safety reasons, I suppose) and because of this they don't always transfer well on the first pass.

Important Notes for Cricut Foil Transfer Kit

  • Watch the video above!!

  • I do not recommend using the bold stylus (marked with a III) on the Cricut Joy. The Joy is cute, but it doesn't exert enough force to use the bold stylus properly.

  • For best results, (as shown in the video) create a custom material for use with this adapter. Set it to max pressure (350) and 2x passes. For best results, every time you use the adapter, select this material regardless of what you are actually using. Now if this setting leaves fine lines on your project, decrease the pressure to 300 or so. This kind of experimentation is pretty normal. It's part of the fun and the process.

Notes for Quill Adapters

  • Watch the video above! :-)

  • When you begin using the Foil, Transfer, Etch and Bevel adapters, stick with standard material settings. If, however, the design isn't right, experiment with custom material settings as shown in the Cricut Foil Transfer Kit video above.

  • You may need to create a custom material for use with these adapters if your design isn't right. If the design is too light, set the material to max pressure (350) and 2x passes. This will make a very bold impression / transfer. If the design is too heavy, or it leaves faint unwanted lines on your projects, back it down. For best results, every time you use the adapter, select this material regardless of what you are actually using.

  • Some customers have found the Foil Quill; adapter works best with pressure set to 300 or so.

  • If it's still not right, adjust the numbers. Once you find the number you should be good to go and you won't need to mess with it much. The Joy is pretty forgiving. Remember, this kind of experimentation is pretty normal. It's part of the fun and the process.

  • The Gelly Roll pens have two “ridges”: a large ridge and a small ridge. See the image below. Be sure to insert the pen until the adapter teeth lock on to the large ridge. Message me with any questions.
